We are a community heritage group, based at the 1722 Waggonway Museum in Cockenzie. The Waggonway Project aims to enhance, interpret and promote the route of Scotland’s First Railway, the 1722 Tranent – Cockenzie Waggonway, and its associated industries and environments.
Our new museum and workshop is now established, with regular opening hours on Sat / Sun 12-3. It contains various displays relating to the history of the Waggonway and the surrounding area and many of the artefacts we have found during our regular community archaeological excavations. We are currently gathering funding to install our replica, hand-made, full-scale 18th century coal waggon at Cockenzie Harbour and are in the process of training guides for walking tours.
If you would like to support our project, please visit our website for more information or have a look at our YouTube channel, Facebook and Twitter pages for video tours of the museum and Waggonway as well as video diaries recorded during our regular archaeology digs.
